Sona Devi Sethia Girls’ College was founded in 1966 by late Mr. Sohan Lal Sethia, in the memory of his mother Sona Devi Sethia.
Mr. Sohan Lal Sethia recognised the pivotal role that women’s education would play in the progress not just of Sujangarh, but of the world.
The Nirmal Sethia Charitable Trust takes responsibility for the college’s finances and overall management, and hopes that its alumni will act as ambassadors for culture and literacy in India and abroad. The college had an initial intake of just 11 girls, but the torch of female education was lit, starting nothing less than a social revolution.
Mr Sethia realised the increasing demand for women’s education and, through the trust, provided the resources for a new college campus to educate 1500 students along with hostel facilities to house 200 girls. The grounds are 12 acres and could be extended, if required.
The future plans for the college include multi-disciplinary subjects to meet the growing demand for professional managers and administrators across the country.
This college is affiliated to Maharaja Ganga Singh University, Bikaner. Its mission is to prepare young women for challenging opportunities in a competitive global economy and a life of leadership in their chosen field. It aims to promote a generation of women leaders to change the world.
