In May 2021, the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic took hold in India and the most distressing scenes were broadcast to the world of vast numbers of uncared for bodies in the streets awaiting cremation.
To preserve the dignity of the deceased, the Trustees of N Sethia Foundation immediately entered into an agreement with the Government of West Bengal to fund the purchase of new gas and electric furnaces. Without delay, these were installed at various crematoriums in Kolkata and other locations in the state of West Bengal.
